It’s so important to keep moving!
We know that if we don’t ‘use it we lose it’. And keeping active doesn’t have to mean a gym membership; there are so many other ways to keep moving. There is plenty of adventure to be had in Sussex to tempt you outside and keep you active. Borde Hill Gardens have Magnolias in Bloom running from now until the end of April. The Garden House in Brighton has open days on 27 and 29 March as part of the National Garden Scheme. One Garden in Stanmer Park is a lovely accessible space with a café and nursery shop. Science backs up the idea that spending time in green spaces and injecting a bit of nature into your life benefits your mental, as well as physical wellbeing. Our team come with their car so do get in touch if you would like to arrange some trips out. If you’re worried about your mobility sometimes just a drive out into the countryside and back home again is enough to provide that boost!.
Health walks & other local activities
The Heathwalks movement is led by volunteers and caters for all abilities and is a great way to have a regular walk and a natter. For Brighton call 01273 294589 for more information. The Hop 50+ in Hove has a wide range of low-cost activities and trips on offer. You can contact them on 01273 729603. If you would prefer one to one support to enable you to get out walking or take part in an activity our team would love to help so do get in touch with us.
If you want to know more about what’s available locally do contact the Healthy Lifestyles Team at Brighton Council on 01273 294589.
Gardening
Gardening is such a great way to keep moving, and so good for our well-being too. If you would like someone to garden alongside you and do some of the heavy lifting our lovely Home & Company gardening team would be happy to help. They can take away any garden waste too.
Yoga
If getting out to classes isn’t possible then Tiffany from the Home & Company team can come and do gentle exercise and yoga with you in your home to suit your level of mobility and improve movement and wellbeing at your pace. Do give us a ring if you think you might like to give it a try.
Physio
If you are struggling with your movement and feel you would benefit from some physiotherapy at home we have a fabulous physio, Anna, on our team. Anna can see you at home when suits you and work through a programme of exercises to help you regain strength and mobility. Physio can also help with pain, in addition to improvement with confidence, balance and preventing falls. If you would like to know more do give us a ring.
Aids and adaptations to keep you moving
Sometimes we just need a few adjustments to make movement easier. Our Occupational Therapist can visit you in your home and look at what you are struggling with. She will then be able to recommend equipment, adaptations or sometimes just simple, practical strategies to help you do things more easily and safely. If you would like to know more about how occupational therapy could help you just call us on 01273 434190.
We’re passionate about getting and keeping people active, whatever your age and health condition. If we can help with advice or support in any way do just get in touch.
